Have you compared the background and text colours? That can have a surprising effect on how the text appears.

Linux Mint tends to be a bit conservative in terms of kernel version (which is what usually determines driver and hardware support), which explains why you had trouble getting hardware to work. I think they’re getting better at it now though.

Under Linux, I find “gparted” to be a good application for looking at and managing partitions.

How are you running the games? Wine/Proton creates a “pretend” Windows environment which you may as well have on a Linux native filesystem.

I think the time to do that has already passed; the Steam Deck and even Linux gaming in general has really taken off, so it would impact far more people than before. In addition, I think the EU has started breathing down their neck and will pounce on them if they do anything so blatantly monopolistic.

So this hypothetical “Direct X 15” would be limited to only Windows 11 users outside of europe, and the games wouldn’t be distributable through Steam. I can’t see that being a good pitch to developers, even if DirectX15 was really good.

They also tried this waay back in Windows 8 with the Windows Store, and it honestly was a flop.

How much log information is being printed to the console? If it’s logging something every frame then that could be using a ton of resources.

I have a Windows dual boot for the (nowadays rather rare) cases where a game won’t run in Linux.

Interestingly, I spent a while trying to get League of Legends working with their new rootkit requirements… But my Windows-using friends weren’t comfortable playing the game any more.

Really? To me they look like the ones on the 3DS. It made sense there considering the lid, but not here.

Scam aside, that thing does not look comfortable to hold and use. Especially those triggers.

I’m on a Jerboa version which displays the number of upvotes and number of downvotes separately, and I think that’s the best way of doing it. We’re not Reddit; we don’t need to do smoke and mirrors to obscure data.

If this is all about some secret keys, couldn’t they release the project without those keys, and ask users to get those keys through… Uh… Legal means. I think that’s how they got around it in bioses for earlier consoles.

As far as I know, the open source drivers are recommended for AMD - my driver installer in Mint doesn’t even list proprietary drivers.

Mint has a program that simplifies the process of installing Nvidia drivers. I think it’s just called “Driver Manager”.

Updated Jerboa and now I’m getting this too. +1 for being able to turn it off, because apparently my vision is based on motion.

Afaik you can’t do it on the app, or at least I can’t find the button for it.
