Could you elaborate on the reform? I hear the hype yet to me it looks like a severely overpriced tv box with some low-grade peripherials strapped to it in the least space efficient way possible. Did they got rockchip to release sources instead of blobs or something? What is the praise actually for?

I was a bit shocked to see WinXP there, when win10 was already the norm, and with quite a bunch of severely outdated software on it. At the time, I thought “well, at least it does the job well enough for him to be still employed”. Now I understand that he was probably onto something…
drathvedro@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what’s the weirdest word in your language?link fedilink 4 months ago11·arrow-up Some Russian ones:
недоперепил: недо - not quite, пере - overdid, пил - drank. Sounds weird due to opposing suffixes, basically means “haven’t drunk enough to get completely wasted”, in my circles we use it to describe displeasure when the alcohol runs dry on events we’ve set to get wasted all along.
опердень: Due to how it’s only used in professional circles and how language is structured, someone hearing it for the first time might think it’s a word rooted from “пердеть” (to fart), and based on the suffixes assume it relates to some kind of creature that farts (or get farted) all over. But it’s actually a shorthand for Операционный День (processing day) which is how finance guys call their banking software as it basically replaced said processing day in their work.
Same for “опсос” - sounds like “someone who sucks all over something” but is just a shorthand for “оператор сотовой связи” - phone service provider.

I’d say that’d be a good one to donate to, and from which most people would benefit from.

Plus “oops, all your files are gone, tee hee”. GZ everywhere is fucking stupid. More complexity for zero benefit.

drathvedro@lemm.eeto Open Source@lemmy.ml•What open-source software would you like more people to know about?link fedilink 13·arrow-up 1 year agoedit-2 Another thing like that I wish I’d discover sooner is syncthing - it’s really intuitive, just point it to a folder and it syncs stuff across your devices automatically. With it, a lot of cloud storage, backup and file transfer applications and features are completely redundant.
EDIT: Ah, I did not scroll far enough to see that this recommendation is literally the next comment from this.

Thank you, now please fuck off with that bullshit.

Reading this at 165hz, and in HDR. But… it’s a laptop.
Though if the panel is out there, so are the monitors using it. From the looks of it, ASUS ZenScreen 16" (MB16QHG), UPERFECT 156K01SG and numerous chinese portable monitors use the exact same panel. Not quite desktop monitors, but it’s at least something
Is it actually good for tablets now?
I remember having a good time with windows 8 on a tablet, that is, as long as all of my needs were fulfilled by metro apps. GNOME, one the other hand, I found to be less usable than even Win10 with display scaling.
This is bad UX:
- It’s disabled by default
- It has a different function (open link in new tab)
- It can be intercepted and disabled by the webpage
- Not as intuitive as a scrollbar
Reading this on 2560x1600 screen right now. They’re still available if you look for them.

Too long to explain, but I have a thing against wireless, a thing against corporations making decisions for me, and a thing against phones in general.

Hovewer, given her and LTT staff characters, I tend to believe most of what she said. Though, I expected Max to come out with it, not Madison.
